Mission Statement
Central Oregon Velo (COV) is a non-profit club created for people who are passionate about cycling. COV will embrace cyclists of all ages and backgrounds and will seek to bring cycling into the everyday lives of Central Oregon residents. COV will provide a gateway for individuals and families to become more deeply involved with our sport and each other.
Are you frustrated with the conditions of the roads, the access to trails, the indifference to cyclists by motorists? Or do you have other safety or accessibility concerns? When you join COV, you will be helping form an organized group of cyclists who can advocate for cycling related improvements. COV is dedicated to working with other agencies to improve conditions and safety for all cyclists in our area.
Membership
Membership is open to anyone in Central Oregon no matter your ability, age or affiliation with other organizations. We hope that those who race on local teams will join so we can represent Bend, Sunriver, Tumalo, Redmond and surrounding areas with the support of riders at all levels. Our yearly membership fee is only $35 for an adult and free for 18 and under.
We’re just getting started, but wouldn’t you say it’s about time? Help us make this club fun, vibrant and refreshing! Send us an email if you’re interested in joining: info@centraloregonvelo.com
Group Rides
For the winter season we will have a weekly road group ride leaving from Nancy P’s Bakery on Saturdays at noon. The pace is conversational with no riders left behind. Run times are approx. 2.5 - 3 hours. More group rides will be established in the spring to suit your needs.
Mountain bikers are encouraged to join the club and we expect to organize rides in the spring of 2008.
Skills clinics, women’s rides, bike maintenance classes and more will be established on a regular basis via the club’s website once we’re fully launched this winter. So, if you’re interested, please send an email to the address provided and we will update you when we’re ready to go.
Club Meetings
Once COV has a solid membership base, we will hold social meetings once a month, so stay tuned! In the meantime, communication will be via website and email postings.
Partnerships
COV is partnering with the Tumalo Langlauf Club (www.tumalolanglauf.com) to combine the two great outdoor sports of the region - Nordic skiing and cycling. We encourage you to support their efforts at Meissner Sno-Park to provide grooming and trail/facility improvements.
COV is partnering with the Mount Bachelor Sports Education Foundation (www.MBSEF.org) to bolster junior cycling development in our area. We will share resources to provide more coaching and enrollment opportunities for our juniors through the already established MBSEF cycling programs. Learn more about how to enroll your children at their website.
